Deep Creek Lake Art & Wine Festival
Saturday, September 6, 2008
Garrett County Fairgrounds
Noon - 6 pm (Wine Store Remains Open Until 7 pm)
Over thirty professional artisans and craftsmen will display and sell their art, from handcrafted jewelry and wood carvings to oil paintings and alpaca hair sweaters and accessories. National distributors and Maryland wineries will offer samplings from a variety of over 200 wines to satisfy even the most discriminating taste buds. Guests may purchase the wines at the festival’s retail store, with net proceeds donated to the Red Cross. Ken Korando, of Maryland’s Solomons Island Winery, has once again marked his calendar for the 2007 event. “Our staff loves attending the festival. We’re going to have to start drawing straws to see who represents our winery. It’s very well organized and just lots of fun. We keep bringing more varietals each year because we sell out so fast!”
Brings the kids along!!!
While you browse the festival let your kids do some art of their own. There are plenty of activities for the youngsters to partake in including face painting, the coloring wall and a petting zoo!! Show them to the 'Juicers' area where there's refreshments to tide them over while you enjoy the afternoon at the festival.
Visitors who frequent the Deep Creek Lake area will have the opportunity to chat with locals who are elevated to a new status for the afternoon as they become the festival’s “celebrity pourers.” Past participants include state senator George Edwards, delegate, Wendell Beitzel, county commissioners Denny Glotfelty and Fred Holliday, Oakland mayor, Asa McCain, and a representative from Senator Barbara Mikulski’s office.
Rounding out the afternoon is live entertainment by local and regional musicians and a silent auction that features donated wines, wine accessories, art and children’s gifts.
