Deep Creek Lake, MD - Retro Lake Landing (Rental Home) : Uniquely Peaceful a.) Selection Of Location - Our children 17, 19,and 20 were interested in a unique Christmas getaway, instead of presents, which focused on skiing. Charlie and I wanted a location with a view that did not include the bottoms of ski lift seats at all hours of the day/night. (This was a good option.) B.) Reservations - Sophia with Long & Foster ("L&G;") was gracious! Always willing to share information, and field our concerns - especially those concerning the use of 4-weal drive vehicles (this location requires it). In our busy lives it was nice to have someone working with us who displayed excellent follow up as well. L&G; also has someone "on call" all hours of the night should a guest need assistance - comforting to know. C.) Site - 1.The house was clean, and linens were provided; 2.The kitchen possessed all of the needed supplies (we cooked every day/night, except for 1, and did not need additional kitchen items. Examples: omelettes, french toast, potato latkes, steaks, crown roast of pork, lasagna, cookies for Christmas etc.); 3.The great room was spacious allowing for family from the area to stop in for dinner and a movie; 4.The master bedroom was comfortable with a private bathroom; 5.The additional bedrooms on the 2nd floor provided a good separation for our children and cousins who came to visit; 6.The 170 degree view of the woods and lake was inspiring - deer meandered through in the evenings, birds of prey were seen in the leaf barren canopy, a snowy owl did not tolerate us for long though; 7. Decks - since we had an expansive view from inside of the home there was no need to venture out on the upper deck, the lower deck with the hot tub was used frequently, and it was the gateway to the lake; 8. The trail to the lake was part path and part deck (stairs) and was about the length of a reasonable country driveway; 9. Lake - Beautiful in the winter, partly frozen and quiet, sitting in the hot tub at night watching the lights on the opposing bank and the ones from the bridge in the distance was peaceful, 10.Laundry - (Washer and Dryer) With all of the ski gear the dryer was used everyday, 11. Wi-Fi - Available and the house had a computer with internet service (tracked down menu ingredients), D.) Skiing - We had the best of both worlds ... Being able to walk the banks of Deep Creek Lake and drive 5 minutes across the top of the mountain to the Wisp Ski Resort's lifts was efficient and kept us away from the masses when the official ski season began, E.) Roads - Yes 4 wheel drive is needed to navigate the mountain during snow ... we had a Ford F-150 and a Jeep Cherokee and had no problems traveling (thanks Sophia), F.) Restaurants and grocery stores are convenient (a bit pricing though) and extremely crowded once the ski season hit, the "Butchers Block" (meats) carved excellent steaks, chops, and the Crown Roast (Christmas Dinner) etc. for our week plus stay, a nice bakery that serves the public would have been nice (no Panera Bread options), G.) Recommendations - A shovel and broom should be available guests to shovel snow/leaves off of the decks and pathway, an external electrical socket would have been nice for a radio in the hot tub (perhaps we just did not locate one)... This house becomes a home with what you are able to bring to it ... good food, good company, and a good atmosphere. It is nice for romantic getaways and/or family gatherings..
Thank you so much for your review! We are glad that you had a wonderful time! We will make sure there is a shovel and broom at the home. There should have been, so we apologize! This is one of the most unique homes at Deep Creek and we hope you come back to visit!
Retro Lake Landing has been our favorite house in 4 years of renting for our summer vacation. The round design and amazing windows made us feel like we were outside the whole time. There are 2 living areas with Tv's which let our family spread out a bit. The kitchen was really well stocked with cooking gear and the garbage compactor was great for minimizing trash (there was only one large trash bin outside for this house.) The private dock was awesome but 2 words of wisdom - there was no swim ladder (summer of 2013) and the walk down included lots of stairs. If you have a family member with mobility issues it could be tough to get down and back up. Otherwise - our kids swam and fished and we loved the private wooded feel. We did not like the bunk beds - were not very sturdy and the metal frame had sharp areas. Not for little kids!
We stayed in July 2013 and had a nice time, despite a little rainy weather. I have read many reviews for this home and just wanted to say a few things for future renters. We brought our dog (70 lb golden retrvr) and had no problem with the upper deck. I can see if you have a small dog their legs may slipped through some slats. The spiral steps inside are carpeted and may pose a problem for some dogs, we just used the outside entrances on both levels for our dog since she has "clumsy legs". Yes there is a long somewhat steep path to go down to the dock and back up to the house, but was just as we expected and had no problem. Again, I can see this being an issue for some who are maybe not as "fit" or athletic in nature. We also saw the downed tv antenna next to the house that was not in an area that you walk, so didn't give it a second thought other then it probably happened as there was a storm previously. Either way, the downed antenna did not ruin our vacation. The same thought was used when it came to some of the downed trees, (none of them in the path). We were well aware and not surprised of the effect that hurricane Sandy brought to this are, you would see/understand this if you visited the swallow falls area. The only thing that we can honestly say we would change was the beach area by the docks needed to be cleaned up and raked. We were gonna ask for a rake and do it ourselves, but we didn't have too much dry weather, so didn't get around to it. We had brought two boats and the dock was perfect. The home was just as expected and we enjoyed ourselves. The house was clean and did not have a smell, infact we stayed downstairs the week and the dehumidifiers were working just fine! Sometimes I think people forget if you want a Radison or Hilton Suite then you should stay there. We enjoyed our stay and really have no complaints! There was no stains of any sort on bed linens or towels! We would recommend to future renters, the price was right! Also was wifi!
My wife and I were pleasantly surprised when we entered the home. It has great colors and is very unconventional, which suits the fact that it is round as well. The home was well cared for, check in was easy, and there were amenities there that were not even advertised (example: outdoor firepit). It was great to not stay on The Wisp property, but still be so close..like two to three minutes from main entrance, and closer still to the north entrance. I'd highly recommend this home if you are looking for something other than one of the "mcmansions" to stay in. Well appointed amenities, comfortable and cozy, and priced very reasonably for being both lakefront and so close to the slopes...the hot tub is amazing!
Our Jack Russell terrier is elderly and diabetic, and we do not travel without him. His legs fit through the deck slats, so we had to carry him in and out of the house. There was absolutely no grass on the entire property, so he had to go quite a ways, over angular gravel that hurt his paws, to do his business. There is a spiral staircase in the middle of the house without any way to block the opening, and he fell all the way down the stairs. If you don't have pets, it was great - beautiful setting, lovely lake access, nice ammenities.
The family and I had a great time. Loved the place. Can't wait to do it again!!!
Nice place, small secondary bedrooms. good location on lake. lots of steps,
We utilized most of the options offered at this property and adjacent town. We stayed too early for ski season, but it's definitely a place that I would want to stay, if I want to go to Wisp. The firewood, although plentiful, was a bit wet, but we found a few logs that were fairly dry. Would have liked a cookie sheet, but we used the glass Pyrex casserole dish. Great place for a large group (4-8), but perfect for 2, as well. The town was not too far away, which was beneficial. I don't take a vacation very often, and was very happy with the stay. Sheila, our agent, was extremely accommodating.
beautiful and peaceful location completely lived up to its billing; interesting house with round architecture; some furnishings are a bit old/dated; overall a nice place for a family getaway
It was a great location with everything we wanted...hot tub, fire pit, wooded area with some privacy, right on the water. It was a great place for a relaxing getaway! We absolutely loved it!
The setting was excellent - private thanks to the thick woods, and very conducive to multi-generational family interaction. The house was very well suited to our family's needs, and the unusual architecture added to our enjoyment. The grandparents had a master bedroom on one level, while the parents and 6-year-old had a "suite" with shared bathroom. The kitchen had almost everything we wanted- except a toaster oven and a large pot. The grill could stand replacing, but it was usable. We enjoyed the layered, well-maintained decks, the fire pit, the hot tub, the dock, even the little beach area. Our grandson caught his first fish! The path and stairs to the shore were fairly steep, but easily negotiable - and good exercise. We rented a canoe, which was delivered right to the shore, a real plus. That portion of the lake is quite busy with boats, and there was a fair amount of wake activity and debris that floated in, which detracted from the boy's swimming experience near the shore. If there had been a rake available, we could have cleaned it up in a hurry. We appreciated the special consideration of allowing us to check out late because new guests were not expected that day - it turned what could have been a stressful morning into another enjoyable vacation day. We liked this home very much, but when we return with young kids, we'll probably stay on a smaller cove with less lake traffic.
Great location, views, and spot. Good for kids, because the decor was not updated--so no worries about little kids breaking everything. The deck was huge and great---perfect for large families or friends to gather in a tranquil space. I would definitely return.
Amazingly clean and well furnished and stocked. Lovely setting in the woods
The home was very neat and well equipped. It is set in a wonderful wooded area with wildlife passing through the trails. Although the driveway was a little steep and slippery, we did go around the lake attractions by vehicle a few times, the majority of our travel was by boat. The direct tv was a little shaky, but when you're on vacation who needs it, right!! Well you do need the weather channel at least to plan your activities. We all enjoyed the quiet and fresh surroundings, and would definitely stay there again.

Bidding is only allowed for online customers. Do not call about the bidding process-email only, however you can call our office to see what current discounts are being offered. The discounts will be similar to what an accepted bid is expected to be. The bidding form is not to get a lower discount than what is offered through our office, but a convenient tool to use so you do not have to call in. Remember, not all homes will accept a bid, and sometimes, the discounts that Long and Foster offers will be more or exactly the same as what a homeowner might accept.
If you are within 5 days...make us a reasonable offer.
Please be courteous and only submit serious bids. Ensure that you read and follow the Last Minute Bidding Rules below, or your bid will be deleted and not considered.
Bidding Process and Policies
- Review the properties using our reservation availability search to the left. Each property listing will have a “Last Minute Bid” Tab on the property page and this is what you will need to complete to be considered for that specific home. Find the home you really want before you make a bid.
- Complete the form fully and honestly, and submit your bid. If not completed, it will not be accepted.
- Only submit a reasonable bid. A ridiculously low offer will not be considered and will be deleted immediately. Examples of considered bids will be 10% Off the advertised rate. 3 Nights for the rate of only 2. 15% off a 3 night stay, $150 off the advertised rate…for example. Be smart, you know what a too low bid would be.
- Our Long & Foster Rental Staff will contact the property owner to determine if your offer is acceptable or if a counter offer shall be made by the owner, then we will contact you immediately with the result. If the bid is thrown out due to a low offer, you will not get a follow up.
- When your bid is accepted, you will be required to pay for the lodging in full via credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover) and execute our standard lodging agreement within the next 90 minutes. Failure to do so will void your accepted bid, and we will not resubmit for approval. Remember, if someone books before you confirm it, your offer is also VOID.
- Your right to the vacation property cannot be assigned or re-sold. Please carefully review our occupancy guidelines as this is your responsibility.
- Our standard processing fee, Accidental Damage Waiver Fee and taxes will be added to the agreed upon bid submitted below. No exceptions.
- A non-response after 24 hours shall deem the bid to have been unacceptable to the property owner, or thrown out due to an unrealistic offer, so please continue looking for a rental.
- We will only accept the first bid submitted in a given day per person/email address, so only 1 BID ALLOWED. If you bid on multiple homes, all bids will be thrown out. If your first bid is accepted, you will not be permitted to make additional bids unless you are looking at booking multiple homes or a different date.
- Please remember bidding is only allowed on properties within 5 days of arrival and only allowed for one home at a time. Bids that are outside of that 5 day window will be ignored and deleted, as will unrealistic bids.
- Please review the policies and procedures put forth by Long and Foster Resort Rentals and do not make a bid unless you agree to all terms.
